A Little About Me

Sherlene

I’m originally from Phoenix, Arizona, but I currently live in Panama City, Florida. This area, in northwest Florida, is known as the “Emerald Coast”. The beaches here are as white as sugar and the water is really clear. We’re known for rowdy spring breakers and hurricanes, but this is really a terrific place to live!

My family includes:

  • a fun husband
  • two amazing kids (ages 8 and 5)
  • the best old dog in the world
  • a busy hamster
  • a low-maintenance frog

For fun, I like to be outdoors with my family! We bike, jog, garden, climb trees, and hit the beach. I also like to do paper crafting and, of course, read!

My Education and Plans

I have a BS in Business with a Marketing Specialization from the University of Arizona, a BA in Elementary Education from Boise State University, and I began the FSU MLIS School Media Specialist Program in Spring 2008. I am currently a certified teacher in the state of Michigan, but will apply for my Florida credential this spring. I’m planning to return to teaching next year, then move into the library once my MLIS degree is completed.

Adventures in Being Me

After my first blog post, a couple of classmates asked about the different places I've lived. I'm a hot-weather and beach girl at heart. However, Alaska was, by far, the most unique place I've ever lived. Our house had amazing mountain views, and there were hiking and cross-country skiing trails everywhere. We saw Bald Eagles in the trees, Beluga Whales in the water, moose in our front yard, and a bear across the street. Our dog actually tried to chase down the bear…I about had a heart attack!

On the Move

Believe it or not, I come from a family who hasn't moved in 45 years! However, I married this great military guy 14 years ago, and my adventures began...I have now lived in:
Glen, Sherlene, Jake, and Jenna
  • Phoenix, Arizona
  • Boise, Idaho
  • Mountain Home, Idaho
  • Eagle River, Alaska
  • Tucson, Arizona
  • New Baltimore, Michigan
  • Panama City, Florida

I think we'll move once more before we finally land somewhere in the West!
